Recent Inaccurate Information Regarding Lightning Eliminators
Recently some misinformation regarding lightning events in Venezuela and Thailand has been circulated about both LEC and our DAS products. First and foremost we extend sympathies to all of the companies and people impacted by these tragic events. Our goal is and has always been to prevent such occurrences and we have been very successful at it. However, to set the record straight, here are the facts:
La Cruz Refinery Venezuela August 2013 - LEC has never had any products, DAS or otherwise, at the La Cruz Refinery in Venezuela. Why we were included in the comments is puzzling.
Map Ta Phut – Thailand: Map Ta Phut is an industrial park in Thailand consisting of many companies and refineries covering a very large area. LEC has no products whatsoever at the site, company, facility and/or anywhere near the location of the lightning strike which occurred in May 2012. Our DAS is located at an entirely different facility owned by a separate company in a different location on the other side of the park and we continue to do a substantial amount of business with the customer. Again misinformation.
El Palito Refinery – Venezuela-PDVSA- September 2012 – The Storage Tank struck at El Palito had no LEC lightning protection, the second tank caught fire as a result of the explosion on the first tank, which lightning protection could not have prevented. The LEC equipment that was nearby had not been inspected for over 14 years. El Palito Refinery, just hired Lecven, our Venezuelan representative to do a major inspection of its facilities and they are in process of getting budgetary approvals for improvements at the facility and continue to purchase equipment from LEC.
In addition and before a comment is made we are aware of the recent lightning incident at the Amuay Refinery in Venezuela. While LEC does have DAS at that facility we only protect the storage tank area of that facility which is over 1 mile away from the stack that was hit in the process area. We were not commissioned to protect the process area of the facility and PDVSA is aware that the DAS that has been installed would not prevent lightning strikes over a mile away and in no way depended on LEC DAS to protect the process area. They too continue to call on our expertise and purchase product from LEC and Lecven.
